In a Rut

I haven't posted in a while, so I figured it was time. I've been in a bit of a rut lately. I haven't been cooking much or doing much else other than working. This promotion has been great, but while I've been taking on additional responsibilities and learning more, I still have all of the old responsibilities, so I've been working a lot. I come home from work every night with a mushy brain because I've been working so hard at learning the new job and I'm exhausted from handling the old job. I'm hoping that will change at some point, but there's really no one to do the old job.

We had a fun weekend. Friday night we went to dinner at Humble Pie in Scottsdale. Tim did a review. He really loved it. As for me, I thought it was pretty good, but it was pizza. I'm not a huge fan of pizza, so it could have been the best pizza in the world and it still would have been lost on me.

When we got home from dinner Friday night, we watched a Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. One of the places Guy went was a barbecue place and that made us crave barbecue. Saturday morning we headed to Joe's in Gilbert. YUM! After lunch, Tim suggested going for a drive. He suggested Saguaro Lake, which I have to admit I've never heard of. It's north of Mesa and it was really pretty. Here are some of the pictures we took. We hadn't really planned on going so we didn't have a regular camera with us, so Tim took these with his Blackberry. They aren't the best quality, but you get the idea. We had a great time.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone! Tim and I are excited for dinner at Tarbell's tonight, so we'll be sure to tell you all about it.
I used to hate Valentine's Day. I used to be one of those people who called it a Hallmark holiday and scoffed at people who celebrated. I was also a very bitter single girl. Now, I take it for what it is. I love Tim every day, but it's nice to have a day to celebrate.
Hope you and your sweetie have a great day!

I quit, and that resulted in a promotion. Go figure. While it kind of makes me mad that I had to quit in order to get promoted, I am glad I don't have to keep job-hunting.

I'm going to get to be a lot more involved in the loan process, rather than just being an assistant. I'm going to be working with one of my previous bosses and the owner of the company. I'm definitely going to learn a lot with those two, which is what I want. And hey, if it doesn't work out again, for whatever reason, I'll have learned a lot and I can try it somewhere else.

Super Bowl, Super Traffic

This is a big weekend for Phoenix. We are hosting the Super Bowl in Glendale and the FBR Open in Scottsdale. Luckily, Tim and I live in the middle. I have a friend who lives about two miles (literally) from the stadium where the Super Bowl is. She doesn't even want to leave her house. I told her to let people park in her yard for $100 a pop.

Anyway, getting back to the subject. I work across the street from the hotel where the New England Patriots are staying. Traffic has been awful the past week. AWFUL. I live 10.5 miles from work and I never have to get on a freeway, but it takes me an hour to get home. It's rather annoying to have to sit in my car for an hour to go to work, where I don't even want to be, anyway.

Here are some rules of the road I feel everyone should know, but apparently they don't:
  1. Just because you drive a big black lifted truck doesn't mean you always have the right of way.
  2. The "suicide lane" is not a passing lane.
  3. Neither is a turning lane.
  4. When you see a sign that a lane is ending, just get over - don't go flying past everyone and then try to squeeze yourself in-between two cars that are four inches apart.
  5. And back off, for God's sake. If I look in my rear-view mirror and can't even see your headlights, you're too f-ing close!
  6. Honking in a traffic jam is a waste of energy. It's not like everyone was just sitting there waiting for you to tell them when to go.
  7. If you drive a Prius and you're doing 50 mph on the freeway, get out of the HOV lane. You're just pissing people off.

Anything else?
